Camping in Ocracoke

In July Ryan and I decided to take a short trip down to Ocracoke Island and camp for an evening. It takes about two hours to get down there and we have to ride the ferry from Hatteras Village to get there. If you have never been there you should make a point to go. Ocracoke is one of those hidden treasures where people truly live on "Island Time". Most people that go down there rent bikes and just ride around the town and enjoy eating on the water and shopping in their quaint shops. We went last year for our anniversary, but this year we decided to actually camp with Kallie in a tent. We packed everything up in Ryan's car, as well as our bikes for a quick, but extremely relaxing and enjoyable time. We camped at the Ocracoke campground, visited the Ocracoke horses (Kallie wanted to climb through the fence and pet and talk to the horses. I was actually surprised that she wasn't the least bit scared of them...she even held her hand out and let them eat from her hand!), rode our bikes all through the town and in the evening we ate at our favorite restaurant down there, The Jolly Roger. It is right on the water and you get to sit outside and eat on the deck while you watch one of the most breathtaking sunsets you will ever see. It is also the ideal place to eat with a toddler b/c when she drops food on the floor you don't feel bad about making a mess. Ryan and I also love having the opportunity to be able to drink one of our favorite beverages, the Harbor Sunset (Champagne, O.J. and a splash of Cranberry Juice), which is one of their special drinks. We usually drink a pitcher or two while we are there. Here are some of the photos from our trip.

*Ocracoke Island doesn't serve any liquor, so any of the restaurants that you go to either serve beer on draft or champagne drink concoctions that they have made up.

Gotta LOVE EAST CAROLINA FOOTBALL Season!!!!!

This past fall, Ryan and I decided to get season tickets for the '09 football season for East Carolina University. We were both really excited because we where only able to go to one football game in the '08 season, due to Kallie being born in October. I was even more excited because we would be able to bring Kallie with us. The season was great and we all had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures of the fun that was had.

SUMMER '09

This summer, as usual, has been a busy one for our family. Between work and everything else I haven't had much time to fill everyone in on what's new, so I am going to try and fill you in now as best as I can. I am also adding a new slide show for your viewing pleasure.

As of today (Sept. 4th, 2009) Kallie is 11 months old. She is walking, talking and even has two lil' bottom teeth. Her favorite thing to say now, besides MAMA is "OH-OH", which for Kallie is "Oh no"...this is so cute to see. She is becoming more and more like a little independent person and less like a needy baby...tears are being shed now because our little baby is no longer a little baby. I ask myself on a daily basis where the time has gone b/c it does not seem that it has been almost ONE YEAR since her birth.

As I stated before, we have been extremely busy. Kallie has gotten to spend a lot of time at the beach, floating around in the pool, going for boat rides and meeting family members. In July my Aunt Chris and Cousin Michelle, along with her husband Jim and his family, finally made it down to the Outer Banks for a week long vacation. It had been about 7 years since we all last saw each other and it was great to finally be able to get together and hang out. I only hope that it isn't another 7 years before we see each other again! We where also able to meet up with our friends a few times this summer. In July we went to Kallie's friend, Ben's, 1st birthday where Kallie was able to have birthday cake for the first time...she loved it of course!

Well that basically sums up the past three months of activities for our family. We hope that this finds everyone well and we hope to see ya'll soon.

The Woodard's First Family Christmas Card

So after years of pleading w/ Ryan to do a personalized Christmas card to send out to our friends and family, he finally agreed. We knew that we wanted to take our picture for the card at my parent's neighbors, Mr. Poulas's. For those of you who don't know, he does the most extravagant christmas lights display in the area. He even won the best lights display in the US for the TODAY SHOW a couple years back. The only thing that we needed to decide was which one out of the numerous photos that my mother took for us would be the one. Well here is a slide show of some of the photos that we took as well as the one that we ultimately decided on.

Kallie's First Halloween

So I know that this is coming really late, but I have been too busy to update our blog. I will just have to type up a couple of posts to update you all on everything that is new with our family and the little munchkin. I guess the first place to start is Kallie's first Halloween. Kallie got to go Trick-or-Treating w/ her Aunt's Isabel and Genna and as with just about everything else we take her to, slept through the entire thing. Here are some pictures of Kallie in her Halloween costume...she was a pink bear.

Baby Kallie Pictures

I know that everyone is anxious to see how much she has grown and how adorable she is, so here are a bunch of photos that have been taken of her.

Going to her 1st doctor's appointment.

KALLIE BREANNE has arrived!!!!!

Well as many of you already know, our sweet little princess has arrived. I know that this is coming almost an entire month late, but my time has been preoccupied with little miss Kallie Breanne and I haven't had the chance to make a new post. So for those of you who don't know all of the details here they are...along with some photos.

I went into work on 10/3/08 and was having consistent contractions all day long every 30-40 minutes, but didn't think much of it because I had just had my doctor's appointment the day before and was only dilated 3-4 centimeters and he thought that I was going to go past my due date, which was 10/7/08. Well little did we know that little miss had different plans for us.

On Saturday (10/4/08), I along with my coworker took two of the youth from the group home to my little sister Isabel's school fall carnival. Ryan was going to meet us there along with my mom and little sisters. Everything was going normal, until Ryan and my family arrived. As soon as they arrived I walked over to talk to them and as soon as we started to talk my water broke. Which might I tell you that no one ever lets you know that this gush of fluids doesn't just come once, it continues to come out every couple of minutes.

Anyways, so Ryan and I proceed on to the Outer Banks Hospital, since we where right down the road and my doctor wanted us to get there as soon as we could. We got to the hospital around 2pm and got checked in, changed and placed into our room. Once in our room the nurses decided that they would start to administer the Pitocin (however you spell it) to help move the contractions along, since I wasn't really contracting at this time...just continuing to leak fluids every few minutes. (I would like to say something else that they definitely DO NOT share with you before administering the Pitocin...this horrible little drug makes you go from having minimal to no contractions to full on painful contractions in no time at all) After dealing with the pain for a little while, the doctor finally said that I could have the epidural whenever I wanted, which I quickly responded that I wanted it ASAP, he stated well the doctor will be in in a couple of minutes to give me the pain medicine...he then states...well we have to page him first because he lives in Manteo. I was like are you F-ing kidding me, to which my doctor seemed to giggle at and said yes.

The doctor finally gave me the pain meds and after that I felt amazing. They gave me just enough, so that it would start to wear off by the time that I was 8cm dilated. Little did they know that I was going to progress so quickly. At 7pm my doctor came in and checked on my progress and at this time I was 7cm dilated and he thought that I would have her around midnight. Well the nurse came in 30 minutes later and checked me again and she seemed a bit shocked and was like...um I need to go and get the doctor because I think that you are fully dilated and can start to push. Well I was fully dilated and started the pushing process, which was extremely difficult because I was still under the epidural due to me progressing so fast. The nurse was telling me to push and I was like I thought that I was and she was like...no you're not.

Anyways...our little princess was born @ 8:49pm. I was in the hospital for a total of 6 1/2 hours before she finally arrived.
Her stats where the following:

Kallie Breanne Woodard
Born: 10/4/08 (she's a 10/4 baby...which Ryan finds completely hysterical)
Time: 8:49pm
Weight: 7lbs 8.4ozs
Length: 20.5"
